NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Fire ripped through a West Nashville condo complex less than a week ago. Neighbors are still trying to come to terms with the destruction.
Smoke and flames could be seen for blocks, the Nashville Fire Department said.
“The smoke was so thick that you could cut it with a knife,” resident Jeannette Myers told News 2. “You could cut it with a knife.”
Myers said she got the alarming call from her neighbor that their building at Hillwood Condominiums was on fire.
“I just jumped up from lunch and ran out. I was here about fifteen minutes later and watched the whole thing go down,” Myers said. “Within minutes, it had spread to like, three times as large as it was. It was hot. It was moving fast.”
In the days since the blaze, Myers’ family said she’s tried to stay positive.
“All I think about is: I may even start a business,” Myers said. “If I can get through this, I may actually go into business.”
Additionally, there are a few items Myers hopes to recover, including photographs.
“I’ve had a Bible since I was 13 and it has a lot of things listed in it,” Myers said. “A lot of memories. That was the first thing I thought about.”
Firefighters said overall, 16 units were damaged, but no one was injured as a result of the blaze. However, a pet cat is still missing.
Myers says she’s lived in this condo for 10 years. Through tragedy, her community has shown up.
“People have just been reaching out [and] wanting to help,” Myers said. “I’m so appreciative of that. All of us are.”
As of publication, Myers is staying with family. You can follow this link to donate to a GoFundMe and help Myers rebuild.
