NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash, marking the second motorcyclist death to occur in South Nashville over the weekend.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the crash happened at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Nolensville Pike near Goins Road.
Officials said a preliminary investigation indicates that a BMW S1000R motorcycle, driven by 23-year-old Marco Macias of Nashville, was traveling south at a high rate of speed when it hit the front of a Chevrolet Silverado that was entering the road from a parking lot.
After hitting the Chevrolet, the motorcycle reportedly crossed the road and struck the front of a Jeep Compass that was traveling northbound.
Police said the 32-year-old driver of Chevrolet was not injured and stayed at the scene. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old driver of the Jeep was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be evaluated. Officials added the Jeep driver’s two-year-old son was taken to Vanderbilt Pediatrics to be treated for minor injuries.

According to the MNPD, the contributing factor for the deadly crash appears to be “excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist.”
The crash happened just two hours after a deadly motorcycle crash on Interstate 24 East near Harding Place, which closed a portion of the interstate for several hours Sunday afternoon.
Metro police are reminding motorcyclists to “be visible, give yourself space, be aware of other motorists blind spots and wear a helmet.”
