NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 64-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a woman over money Sunday night.
According to court documents, the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of 8th Avenue South.
When officers arrived, they found a man in a wheelchair identified as Ray Greer. Officials said Greer directed them to a woman on the floor — who he claimed was his girlfriend — and stated, “I shot her because she was trying to take my money.” Officers also located a gun in plain sight on the floor, reports said.
According to authorities, the woman was shot in the upper right abdomen, with no exit wound. Her injuries were assessed as critical, and she was taken to a hospital to undergo surgery.
After Greer was Mirandized, he allegedly told first responders he shot the woman one time.
Greer also spoke with an MNPD Domestic Violence Division investigator and claimed the victim had left with her belongings during an argument. He alleged she returned to the apartment and attempted to take money from his wallet, which she said he owed her.
At that point, Greer pulled out a gun and shot her because “she was trying to take his money,” reports said.
Greer was booked in Metro jail on an $80,000 bond. No additional details were released as the investigation continues.
