NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville authorities took three teenagers into custody — one of whom was out on bond at the time — after an attempt to stop a stolen luxury car turned into a pursuit Saturday night.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said Violent Crimes detectives were following a stolen Infiniti Q50 with a stolen license plate on Saturday, Feb. 1, but when they tried to stop the sedan on Meridian Street at Douglas Avenue, the driver turned off the lights and fled at a high rate of speed.
Officials said a police helicopter tailed the vehicle and shared updates with the ground units. Then, law enforcement successfully deployed spike strips on South 11th Street at Shelby Avenue.
According to authorities, the driver — identified as 18-year-old Montez Harris — stopped the Infiniti at the intersection of South 11th Street and Fatherland Street before he, 18-year-old Jaque’ja Simpson, and a 17-year-old boy got out of the car. Harris and the 17-year-old were reportedly found hiding under a vehicle while Simpson was later apprehended on South 7th Street.
Police said Harris not only had the keys to the Infiniti in his possession, but a handgun was discovered in his “flight path” and a bottle of prescription pain meds — which were not issued to Harris — was recovered from the car.
Before Saturday’s incident, Harris had been free on a $75,000 bond from a July 2024 arrest for felony drug and weapon possession charges, officials said. In addition, at the time of his arrest last summer, he was served with outstanding warrants for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly firing into a crowd along Dellway Villa Road in March 2024.
On Sunday, Feb. 2, authorities announced Harris was being held on a $111,000 bond for vehicle theft, evading arrest, theft of property, drug possession, and a weapons violation.
As for the other two teens, Simpson is jailed on a $30,000 bond for vehicle theft and evading arrest, and the 17-year-old is charged in Juvenile Court with evading arrest, vehicle theft, and juvenile handgun possession, according to police.
No additional details have been released about this incident.
