NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The 12 South area of Nashville has already seen its fair share of changes over the years, but it will soon be home to a brand new hotel called The Gilmore.
“I think it’s going to give a lot of opportunities for the bachelorette parties to have a place to stay and then walk up and down 12 South,” said Nashville native Giorgio Kemp.
The hotel is still under construction on the corner of Gilmore Avenue and 12th Avenue South. It will be the area’s very first hotel.
According to Kemp, while the cost of living has gone up for him over the years, he sees new commercial developments as an opportunity for Music City.
Cristy Del Rio, who grew up nearby in Antioch, said she often visited 12 South as a child and marvels over how much it has expanded.
“Just seeing 12 South by itself like four years ago completely different…there’s so many new buildings – I remember there was a parking lot across from Jeni’s that’s not there anymore, and it’s really amazing to see that the area is kind of growing and they’re kind of bringing more popularity to the area,” Del Rio said.

The owner of Moda Nashville told News 2 she’s glad the development is going to be a hotel instead of apartments or condos because parking in the area is already a challenge.
Construction on the hotel is expected to be finished by spring.
