STEWART COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — In Stewart County, a Leatherwood man accused of abandoning a litter of puppies was arrested after the animals were found in a wooded area amid frigid temperatures.
According to the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 13, a hunter in the area of Gray’s Crossing found a cardboard box containing seven puppies near Paris Landing Bridge.
Photos shared by the SCSO show the box and the snow-covered ground where the puppies were left.
An investigation was launched, and with tips and evidence from the box, the accused individual was apprehended.
Authorities said the man had put the puppies in a box and drove to an area about 12 to 15 miles from his residence before dropping them off. He was arrested and charged with seven counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
The puppies were brought to the Paris-Henry County Animal Shelter where they have been dewormed, given their shots and remain in good condition. Officials said one of the puppies has already been adopted, and the others are being fostered until they can find a forever home.
