HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Hendersonville Police Department continues to investigate a homicide that happened on Sunday.
“It’s just not something that happens on this block,” resident Candace Lewis, who lives across the street from where the shooting happened, said. “We never see police on this block.”
Hendersonville authorities suspect 18-year-old Amani Jordan from Nashville shot and killed a 16-year-old boy, also from Nashville, on Vulco Street.
Jordan is wanted for second-degree homicide. According to Nashville court documents, Jordan was previously found guilty of vandalism and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On Sunday, detectives could be seen searching inside the home after the shooting.
“Just over the ridge, we have empty woods — so there’s a lot of places to hide out,” Lewis added. “As a single female, I was very nervous yesterday until the police informed us that they thought the assailant had left the neighborhood in a car.”
Lewis told News 2 she usually sees children playing with toys outside the home where the shooting happened. Janice Murrell, who has lived in the neighborhood for 21 years, said she’s never experienced anything like this before.
“What really bothered me at the time was finding out he [the victim] was 16 years old and I knew that people came in from Nashville and other areas around us, but I think that’s what really bothered me the most was that the person was 16 years old,” Murrell said.
Law enforcement added they have no record of any criminal activity occurring at the house before yesterday.
Anyone with information on Jordan’s location or this case is asked to call the Hendersonville Police Department at 615-822-1111 or the Hendersonville Crime Stoppers at 615-594-4113.
