NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is investigating what they said is the “first murder of 2025.”
According to Metro police, Homicide Unit detectives found an “apparent homeless man” Wednesday near the riverbank underneath the sidewalk and road of Gay Street and 1st Avenue.
The deceased is described as “a white man who was living in the immediate area,” according to police. He reportedly suffered blunt force trauma to his head.
When the incident happened has yet to be determined, police said.
Two unhoused men reported the victim’s discovery to an ambassador who works with the Nashville Downtown Partnership, according to MNPD.
Police are working to identify the man through fingerprint analysis. Detectives are also reviewing camera footage in the area.
