PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in connection with reports of a stolen trailer from an area church, and authorities were able to recover the stolen trailer as well.
Life Church in Cookeville reported one of their trailers had been stolen to Putnam County authorities on Dec. 28. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and saw a blue Nissan Frontier leave the church’s parking lot at about 6:47 a.m. on Dec. 25 with a black trailer attached to the truck.
Putnam County dispatchers were able to help detectives locate the same Nissan Frontier as it drove up Buck Mountain Road later that morning. On the same evening, Algood Police officers stopped the Nissan Frontier. The driver of the Frontier was identified as Christopher Roberts. Detectives and patrol deputies went to Roberts’ Cookeville residence where he allegedly admitted to stealing the trailer.
He told authorities the trailer could be found at his cousin’s house on Starlight Road in the Buck Mountain area. Additionally, authorities found a backpack at Roberts’ residence with a 9 mm Taurus firearm.
On Jan. 3, Putnam County authorities identified a second trailer reported stolen out of Cookeville that Roberts was also allegedly responsible for taking. Roberts was charged with two counts of felony theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
His bond was set at $34,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 10, 2024.
