SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — A stretch of Main Street is back open after being shut down for about four hours Monday morning while law enforcement investigated a deadly pedestrian crash.
The Spring Hill Police Department (SHPD) said the crash happened around 5:10 a.m. on the exit ramp from Highway 31 North to Saturn Parkway eastbound going toward the interstate.
“The car sustained very heavy damage and it was a pretty horrific accident. I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Michael Foster, a lieutenant with the Spring Hill Police Department.

SHPD says the man who died is 44-year-old Michael Hendrix of Columbia.
The preliminary investigation shows Hendrix was walking in the busy roadway when he was hit by the vehicle. Detectives are speaking with his family to figure out what his state of mind may have been at the time.
“That area is about 55 miles an hour and then just a little bit after that it goes up to 70,” Foster added.
According to SHPD, after the crash, the driver was shaken up and drove about a mile down the road to a gas station, that’s where officers arrived at the scene.
“The pedestrian was still on top of the vehicle at that time,” Foster told News 2.
Police say the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
SHPD wants to remind people walking on a controlled access highway is illegal and even walking on the shoulder of the highway is dangerous.
According to SHPD, this incident is the third pedestrian crash that resulted in either serious injury or death in recent months.
