MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two people with outstanding warrants were taken into custody after a member of the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) clocked a Mustang — which had a 12-year-old inside — going 95 mph.
According to a social media post from the MJPD on Sunday, Feb. 16, the officer patrolling Interstate 40 West saw the speeding red car, which also had a tag from a different vehicle. Rather than stopping immediately, the Mustang reportedly continued for more than a mile before it pulled into the Shell/McDonald’s off Old Hickory Boulevard.
After stopping, officials said the driver became confrontational and refused to comply. In addition, when the officer tried to detain him, the driver allegedly resisted, stating he was “not going to be handcuffed.”
Police said an off-duty security officer saw the struggle and stepped in to help. Despite his resistance, the driver — described by law enforcement as a 35-year-old man from Whites Creek — was apprehended.
According to authorities, the suspect had a revoked license, as well as active warrants in Montgomery County for failure to appear on an aggravated burglary charge and in Smyrna for failure to appear and violation of a domestic order of protection. He now faces additional charges, including failure to yield, driving on a revoked license, and resisting arrest.
Officials said they also arrested the passenger — a 35-year-old woman from Joelton — after learning she had outstanding warrants for domestic assault in Nashville and shoplifting in Rutherford County.
Police reported a 12-year-old girl in the car was safely brought to Mt. Juliet, where a family member picked her up.
“Another great example of proactivity and holding criminals accountable– ensuring safety in our community!” the MJPD wrote on social media.
Law enforcement did not provide any additional details about the two people who were taken into custody, including their connection to the child who was in the car.
